In 2007 I recorded a CD of American Buddhist folk songs called “Paramita” and put it online. I invited folks to download it for free, mostly. The price of all fifteen songs was a good deed. The deal went, if you did any kind of kind act, however you defined it, and then told us the story of what you did, we would happily send you all the songs, plus a booklet with the lyrics and pictures. No other strings attached.
We call it “good karma music,” or “Acts of Kindness,” and have posted the stories that you sent in, (without your name attached, of course.) The result: 320 stories of kindness from every continent but Antarctica, including submissions in Chinese and Vietnamese language. The first four were from Somewhere, USA, from Unanderra, Australia, from California and from Malaysia. Friends in Australia sent in stories by the dozen, as did Singaporeans. Many of the stories are inspiring, some are heart-breaking, some merely whimsical, like the honest rascal from Shanghai who said, “No story, I just wanted the download.”
I have begun to post here on Dharma Forest some of the most memorable of your stories: please be filled with the spirit of generosity as you read them. Should that spirit move you to want to do a good deed in exchange for Buddhist folk music mp3s, please click here.
To read all the stories, go to: Acts of Kindness on the Dharmaradio.org site
Should you want to buy the physical CD album, you can find it on CDBaby for $13.00, and the electronic download is available on iTunes for $10.00 - - type in Rev. Heng Sure or “Paramita.”
No offense, but if there's a facebook like button, it'll be much easier for me to share.
