Dharma Forest last week reported the demise of Dr. Wesley Woo at age 85, and that Master Hsuan Hua had identified Dr. Woo as a Bodhisattva. Today the news came out that in the ashes left after his cremation his family found over 300 multi-colored sharira relics. Sharira are gem-like crystals left behind when somebody has lived a profoundly virtuous life. The Buddha himself left thousands of crystallized relics that survive to this day. The presence of Sharira relics in one's cremated remains is thought to symbolize genuine cultivation, and an exemplary life.
