(Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Clowery, my parents, on their wedding day.)
This Tuesday night, June 21st, will be our Summer Solstice Tea & Dharma Gathering. We will meet at 7:30 PM at the Teance Tea Shop at 1780 4th Street in Berkeley to consider the topic of fathers and the role that the father archetype plays in each of our lives. Everybody has a father, some of us have the blessing to be fathers. The father role in our lives contributes to a sense of security, order, and authority in our daily awareness, or its lack! Please bring your favorite Dad story - - songs, puppets and tea will be provided free of charge!
For my story I will talk about how the Buddha Amitabha is known as "the Kind Father," blending kindness with authority and stability. Western society has much to learn from the notion of a kind male role model who also blends courage, compassion and a heart of service to all beings.
See you there on the evening of the first day of Summer!
