Lushan is a beautiful range of mountains in Jiangxi Province. Lushan's broad area contains many monasteries, grottoes, caves and hermitages; one of the oldest in constant use is Donglin Si, Eastern Forest Monastery, home of the Pure Land School of Buddhist practice. Master Huiyuan founded the place back in 386 C.E., which means this sacred space has been a source of good energy for the planet for 1700 years!
There is a board describing the brief history of Donglin Si and it contains the names of so many famous literati of Southern China for the last thousand years: Xie Lingyun, Tao Yuanming, Bai Juyi, Su Dongpo, Wang Yangmin, Zhuxi, Dong Qichang, and so on.
Abbot Da'An and manager Daoyuan made us feel most welcome. They are planning the opening of a vast, grand image of Amitabha Buddha next year.
Pictured is the current laity seclusion campus. The monastic campus is still under construction.
