Dharma Events in Sydney
In Sydney for the weekend, with two events coming up. The first is a talk to the Buddhist Council of New South Wales, tonight (Friday, July 13th!) and then tomorrow and for the weekend, I'm speaking at the Mitra Buddhist Youth gathering: "Change Your Mind, Change the World," a sentiment I heartily endorse.

Reverend, I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip to Australia and that travel went more smoothly!
We recently had the pleasure of a visit from the Tibetan monks who made a mandala in our art gallery. My daughter was so enthralled, she drew a small mandala as a gift for the kind nun at the merchandise stall. We went to the dissolution ceremony the next day, and she ran ahead in the informal procession and held a monk's hand. She told me she would never forget that day, and now has a picture of the Dali Lama in her room with a quote. She said 'he is a very wise man!'
I am reading his book about "how to practice". I don't think I'd call myself a Buddhist, but these ideas about compassion are very exciting. I've never understood the 'turn the other cheek' idea, but the way the Dali Lama expresses compassion for one's enemy, it makes sense!
I read about your Three Steps and a Bow for peace just now on the internet. Thank you.
with much appreciation,
Helen
