Biblical in its uncontrolled rage and scope, Hurricane Katrina has left millions of Americans to scavenge for food and shelter and hundreds to thousands reportedly dead.
My heart aches to witness the helplessness of our state and federal governemt relief agencies to help Americans in mortal danger. Poor people are not throw-away people.
This 84 year old woman, Milvertha Hendricks, could be my grandmother, sitting hungry in the rain. She IS my neighbor and she is suffering.
Authorities knew for years that New Orleans was at risk; money went elsewhere.
